On saturday July 3rd, Arte showed a Montpellier Dance day.
To remember that bodies move, feel, occupy space, express.

I could feel ma, the emotional space between people : too far, too close - very far, very close - attracts, repels (each other) - unites, separates.

 "Ma, here the emotional space between two persons."

It reminds me of the beautiful reportage of the Spanish photographer Xavier Comas (published in Courrier International HS manga March-April-May 2010) - photos are great - titled "Ma or Tokyo Space".
In which he captured the so special  universe of trains and stations in Tokyo, inspired by the Japanese notion of "ma".

He writes : "Ma could be translated by interval or gap in time and space, even if it has no real equivalent in our language. This is a very subtle concept which, beyond the mere physical space, involves a sensory experience of emptiness as a substance : white between the lines of a haiku, the movement of a calligraphed character or the pause between two musical notes. "

Having practiced a martial art (Shintaido), I could feel what ma is : this space between the partner / opponent and me, between the teacher and the student / students. It is present between the target, the archer and the arrow, and also between the sheet of paper that flies away and the hand that grasps it, without looking, between the object that falls and the hand that catches it up.

A good archer hits the target even before he shot it.

Le TAI CHI - TAI JI

 Taï Ji tu, le symbole du Yin et du Yang - Symbol of Yin and Yang

Le Taï Chi est l'univers à son commencement (création), indifférencié. Il engendre un couple d'opposés, le Yin et le Yang.
Le soleil (Yang) se lève et le jour apparait, le soleil se couche et fait place à la lune et à la nuit (Yin) grâce à la rotation de la terre.
Le symbole du Taï Chi est ce cercle dans lequel la partie blanche (ou claire) représente le Yang et la partie noire (ou sombre) le Yin.
Imaginez un mouvement tournant doux, perpétuel et progressif, le Yang laissant la place au Yin, le Yin laissant la place au Yang.

Dans le Su Wen, le Taï Ji est l'univers.
Dans le Huangdi Neijing, le Yin Yang est le rythme de l'univers.

Le Taï Chi est l'organisation de la VIE en Yin et Yang, couple d'opposés qui suit des lois (et des rythmes).
Comme celles-ci :
- Quand le Yin croît, le Yang décroît dans les mêmes proportions - et inversement.
- Quand le Yin est à son apogée, il se transforme en Yang - et inversement.
- Quand le Yang est à son maximum, il y a déjà en lui un peu de Yin - et inversement.
Ainsi, vous voyez le point noir dans le blanc, ou le point blanc dans le noir.

C'est pourquoi il ne faut jamais se décourager : car l'espoir est présent dans les situations les plus désespérées, car la solution est déjà présente ou en germe au sein du problème. Car tout est en mouvement dynamique et aucune situation n'est irrémédiablement figée et toujours pareille.
Tout évolue et se transforme.

Tai Ji is the universe at its beginning (creation), undifferentiated. It generates a pair of opposites, the Yin and Yang.
The sun (Yang) rises and the day appears, the sun sets and gives way to the moon and the night (Yin) with the rotation of the earth.
The symbol of Tai Ji is the circle in which the white (or light) part is the Yang and the black (or dark) part is the Yin.
Imagine a gentle, perpetual and progressive twisting motion, Yang giving way to Yin, Yin giving way to Yang.

In the Su Wen, Tai Ji is the universe.
In the Huangdi Neijing, Yin Yang is the rhythm of the universe.

Tai Ji is the organization of LIFE in Yin and Yang, opposites following laws (and rhythms).
For example :
- When Yin is growing, Yang is decreasing in the same proportions - and vice versa.
- When Yin is at its peak, it turns into Yang - and vice versa.
- When Yang is at its peak, there is already a bit of Yin in it - and vice versa.
So you see the black dot in the white, or the white dot in the dark.

That is why we must never lose heart because hope is found in most desperate situations, because the solution is already present
as a germ in the problem. Because everything is in dynamic movement and no situation is fixed forever nor remains always the same.
Everything evolves and changes.

Le Yin et le Yang / Yin and Yang - introduction

Nous aimons qu'on nous raconte des histoires. C'est pourquoi nous lisons, regardons des films, et allons sur Facebook (Quora ou Diaspora), où s'écrit (s'étale) notre histoire et celle de nos amis.
Voici celle du Yin et du Yang. Ce n'est pas une histoire de la création de l'univers, plutôt celle de son organisation.

Au départ est Yang ce qui est tourné vers le soleil, est Yin ce qui est opposé au soleil.

Il y a deux aspects en toute chose : le clair et l'obscur, le chaud et le froid, le haut et le bas. Toute chose a un côté Yin et un côté Yang, et toute chose peut être classée en Yin et en Yang.
Le Feu est Yang, l'Eau est Yin. Par analogie, toute chose qui ressemble au Feu est Yang, toute chose qui ressemble à l'Eau est Yin.
Toute chose lumineuse, claire, chaude, qui monte, qui est en mouvement, à l'extérieur, en plein fonctionnement (ainsi la jeunesse) est Yang.
Toute chose qui est sombre,  fraîche, qui descend, qui est statique, à l'intérieur, en hypo-fonctionnement (ainsi la vieillesse) est Yin.

Vous me suivez : Yin et Yang, opposés et complémentaires - comme le haut et le bas, l'ombre et la lumière, le rouge et le noir si on est littéraire, classiquement le noir et le blanc. Les deux faces de la pièce de monnaie...

Initially Yang is what is facing the sun, Yin is what is opposite to the sun.

There are two aspects in everything : the light and dark, hot and cold, top and bottom. Everything has a Yin side and a Yang side, and everything can be classified into Yin and Yang.
Fire is Yang, Water is Yin. By analogy, anything that looks like Fire is Yang, anything that looks like Water is Yin.
Anything that is bright, clear, hot, rising, which is in motion, outside, in full operation (so is the youth) is Yang.
Anything that is dark, cool, descending, which is static, inside, in hypofunction (so is the old age) is Yin.

You get it : Yin and Yang, opposites and complementary - as the top and bottom, shadow and light, red and black if you are literary, classically  black and white. Both sides of a coin...
